Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 10, 2026
1. Introduction
StudyApp Inc. ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of all users of our educational platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our Service, in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and other applicable privacy laws.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account registration data: name, email address, and password (passwords are stored only in hashed form — we never store or have access to your plain-text password);
- Profile information: educational institution, grade level, subjects, target grade, and exam dates;
- User Content: notes, documents, presentations, audio recordings, images and photographs of study materials — including photos you take with your device's camera or select from your photo library — text you paste, links you submit, and the messages you send to our AI tutor;
- Subscription data: your subscription status, plan type, and renewal dates. We do not collect or store your payment card details. Purchases made in our iOS app are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase; purchases made on our website are processed by Stripe. Neither transmits your full card details to us;
- Communications: messages, support requests, and feedback you send us.
2.2 Performance and Behavioral Data
To power grade prediction and personalized study plans, we automatically collect:
- Quiz responses, scores, and assessment results;
- Behavioral analytics: hesitation time, response patterns, incorrect answers, and study session duration;
- Learning progress, lesson completion rates, streaks, and engagement metrics;
- Device and session data: IP address, browser type, operating system, app version, and device identifiers;
- Push notification tokens, where you enable notifications, so we can deliver study reminders and progress updates to your device. You can disable notifications at any time in the app or in your device settings.
2.3 Camera and Photo Library Access
With your explicit permission, the app can access your device's camera so you can photograph handwritten or printed notes, and your photo library so you can upload existing images of study materials. We access only the specific images you capture or select. We never access your camera or photo library in the background, and we do not scan or collect any other photos on your device. You can revoke either permission at any time in your device settings.
2.4 Uploaded Content and AI Processing
When you upload or capture notes, documents, or images, we collect and process their content using automated analysis tools. This content may be processed by our AI systems and by third-party AI providers in order to extract text, generate study materials, predict grades, and provide tutoring. We use these providers under terms that do not permit your content to be used to train their general-purpose AI models.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Platform and its features;
- Generate personalized study plans and grade predictions using AI;
- Manage your subscription and verify your access to paid features;
- Analyze behavioral patterns to improve prediction accuracy and learning pathways;
- Send you service and lifecycle communications — including account notices, study reminders, progress summaries, and occasional product or promotional updates. You may unsubscribe from marketing and promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any such email, or by turning off notifications in the app. We will still send essential transactional messages (for example, receipts, password resets, and security notices);
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service;
- Conduct internal research and product development to improve our algorithms.
4. Sharing Your Information
4.1 Third-Party Service Providers
We share your information with trusted third parties only as necessary to provide the Service:
- Apple Inc. — processing and management of In-App Purchase subscriptions on iOS;
- Stripe, Inc. — payment processing for subscriptions purchased on our website;
- RevenueCat, Inc. — subscription management and entitlement validation across platforms;
- Supabase, Inc. — cloud hosting, database, authentication, and file storage;
- Google LLC — AI and machine-learning processing used to generate notes, quizzes, study plans, and tutoring responses;
- Resend — delivery of transactional and lifecycle email;
- Expo (650 Industries, Inc.) — delivery of push notifications;
- Analytics providers — understanding platform usage and improving user experience.
Data shared with these providers is minimized to what is necessary and is subject to data processing agreements.
4.2 Legal Disclosure
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
4.3 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have.
4.4 No Sale of Personal Data
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes, and we do not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use your data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
5. Uploaded Images and Notes
Images, documents, and notes you upload or capture are processed for the purpose of providing study assistance and personalized content. We retain them for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to provide the Service. You may delete specific uploaded content at any time in the app, or request deletion by contacting us. We apply technical measures — including access controls and row-level security — to prevent unauthorized access to your content. Your study materials are private to your account and are never shown to other users.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active, as needed to provide the Service, and as required to comply with legal obligations. Behavioral analytics data may be retained in aggregated, de-identified form for research and product development purposes indefinitely. Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, subject to legal retention requirements.
7. International Data Transfers
As a globally accessible platform headquartered in Alberta, Canada, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your jurisdiction, including the United States. Such transfers are governed by appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (for EEA and UK users) and comparable mechanisms. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers as described in this Policy.
8. Your Privacy Rights
8.1 All Users
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal obligations);
- Withdraw consent for certain processing activities;
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
8.2 EEA / UK Users (GDPR)
In addition to the above, EEA and UK users have the right to object to processing, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal bases for processing include: performance of a contract (account and subscription services), legitimate interests (improving the Service, analytics, and security), consent (where obtained, including for marketing communications and device permissions), and compliance with legal obligations.
8.3 California Users (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to correct inaccurate personal information, the right to opt out of sale or sharing (we do not sell or share personal data as those terms are defined), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
8.4 Exercising Your Rights
You can delete your account and its associated data directly in the app at any time (Settings → Delete account). You may also exercise any of your privacy rights by contacting us at info@studyappai.com. We will respond within 30 days, or the timeframe required by applicable law.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account (or at least 16, where the General Data Protection Regulation or local law sets a higher age of digital consent). If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should review this Policy with a parent or legal guardian and use the Service only with their consent.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will delete that information promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us with personal information may contact us at info@studyappai.com to review, correct, or delete it.
10. Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, hashed password storage, row-level access controls that isolate each user's data, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at info@studyappai.com.
11. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
On our website, we use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Platform, keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and analyze usage. You may control cookies through your browser settings; however, disabling certain cookies may affect Platform functionality. We use both session and persistent cookies, as well as third-party analytics cookies. Our mobile app does not use cookies; it uses secure local storage on your device to keep you signed in.
12. Third-Party Links
Our Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with your personal information.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the revised Policy on the Platform and updating the effective date. Your continued use of the Service following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
